My Hub101 Journey
I came to California Lutheran University as an international student from Norway in 2017. My first year I was in many ways insecure, because I felt like my English was not as good as it should have been, and I often doubted what I was capable of. My second year at Cal Lutheran I decided to get a job, and this was when I discovered Hub101. I had never heard of it before, and I decided to apply. This is one of the best decisions I have made.
After interviewing with my supervisor Greg for about 5 minutes, I got the job as a content creator at Hub101. I quickly realized this position was unlike any job I have had before – and I have had many. At first I almost found it confusing, because I have never before had a job where your boss just tells you to “do what you want to do” or “do what you think is best.” I have never before had a job where you are allowed to decide what you want to work on yourself, and where you are constantly reminded that you do not need people to tell you what to do because the work you do is amazing.
Having this opportunity to find my strengths and realize I do actually know what I am doing is something I am very grateful for, and something that changed my life. Not only has it had a positive impact on me, but it has also made me realize how important leadership is if you want your employees to do their absolute best.
It has made me realize the importance of letting your employees try and fail, and to let them do what they are inspired by and good at. Since I started working here I have been able to attend so many fun events, talks, presentations and workshops, and I am eternally grateful for all the opportunities it has presented me with.
My job at Hub101 has taught me that anything is possible, and through great mentors like Mike and Greg, I have learned that I can do whatever I set my mind to. After I started working at Hub101 I have taken all the opportunities that have been presented to me, not only because I can – but because I know that I am good at what I do. I believe it takes a special kind of job to make you leave with more energy than you had when you came in, and to make you sit at your desk and smile because you are having fun and you feel like you are accomplishing something.
Hub101 is not only an office space, it is a community and a place to call home. It is a place where you can start your own business and work hard to achieve your dreams, but it is also a place where you can have coffee, get inspired, make connections and find out what is important if you want to achieve your dreams. I have learned so much more about business and startups here than I ever would have in school, and I owe Hub101 a big thank you for letting me develop and grow here. Hub101 Operated by California Lutheran University in Westlake Village, CA, Hub101 offers coworking, community, and mentorship for entrepreneurs and small business owners to start, grow and scale their startups with the help of mentors, coaches and service providers. #StartSomething
